Join us for an event that celebrates a new pedagogical collaboration between Sarah Lawrence College and Bronx Community College, funded by the Mellon Foundation! Presented by the Sarah Lawrence Interdisciplinary Collective on the Environment (SLICE), this panel on law and environmental activism will focus on questions of environmental and climate justice. A reception showcasing local initiatives, organizations, and ways to get involved will follow.
Panelists will discuss topics ranging from environmental and climate justice initiatives both around the globe and in our local communities, advocacy around climate migration in Southeast Asia, and the effect on local policy of Groundwork Hudson Valley's heat mapping project in Yonkers. Students will get a concrete sense of how to get involved and help shape the future through advocacy work.
Panelists include Alejandra Rabasa Salinas, President of the Interdisciplinary Center for Biodiversity and the Environment (CeIBA) and head of the environmental justice agenda at the Supreme Court of Mexico's Center for Constitutional Research; Sarah Lawrence faculty members Parthiban Muniandy and Mark Shulman; and Brigitte Griswold, Executive Director of Groundwork Hudson Valley.
The panel will be followed by a reception showcasing local initiatives and cooperations related to environmental and climate issues. The following groups will be present:
